Smart Task Filtering

The platform organizes every task around each student's actual school list. UC tasks only appear for UC applicants. Common App tasks only for Common App schools. Everything built around their list, not a generic template.

One Priority at a Time

The Today tab surfaces one priority task at a time based on where the student is in the process. When a task is done, the tool responds with a specific, real acknowledgment that reflects what they actually just completed.

Three Views, One Process

The task list view shows everything by phase. The calendar view shows what is coming by date. The by-school view shows progress per school. Three different ways to look at the same process, whichever helps a particular student feel in control.

Writing Guidance Built In

Every major essay task — Personal Statement, UC PIQs, and supplemental essays — has expandable coaching tips built directly into it. All eight UC PIQ prompts with guided reflection questions. Students with Story Notes get pointed there first before writing.

Activity and Award Drafts

Seniors also get access to the full My Story section. Activity descriptions are drafted in two pre-formatted versions — 150 characters for Common App and 350 for UC — ready to paste directly into application portals. Award descriptions formatted for both Common App and UC requirements. A brag sheet generated automatically for recommenders. Senior fall is stressful enough. This is one less thing.

For students who begin working with Balanced Method earlier, The College Story offers a completely different experience designed for where they actually are. Not a senior-year process pushed onto a freshman.

The Journey tab is built around one idea: the best college applications come from real experiences, noticed and recorded over time. Not assembled under pressure senior fall.

The Today tab surfaces grade appropriate reflection prompts throughout the year. Not a checklist. Not a deadline. One question at a time, worth sitting with. Students record their answers as Story Notes, observations about what they care about, what challenged them, what they are figuring out about themselves.

Activities and awards are tracked with the detail that actually matters later: who saw you at your best, what role you played, whether it was a summer experience, how many hours. All of it captured now, when the student remembers it clearly.

When a student has accumulated enough notes, activities, and awards, everything pulls together automatically. Notes, activities, and awards automatically generate a brag sheet formatted for recommendation letters. Pre-formatted activity descriptions ready to paste directly into Common App, UC, and CSU portals.

And for Balanced Method clients, My Patterns uses Kathy's advising framework to identify the story that is emerging from everything the student has built, the kind of pattern recognition that usually only happens in a session, visible in the tool itself. Students who started early will feel the difference senior fall.
